Goma

Please keep Chris' sister, Allison, in your prayers. Last Saturday, she flew with a group of primarily medical volunteers (she is a nurse) to the city of Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Members of her group will be caring for patients and providing education to the medical staff at the local hospital.

What an incredible opportunity.

I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity. -- Edgar Allan Poe

So maybe Poe actually encountered a little insanity, but I think I'm heading that direction as well. Work and school continue to escalate for me, and I know Chris will encounter the same scenario next week when he begins his new job.

Many people have asked me about the imminent layoffs at Boston Scientific, so here's brief update. As far as I know, I will not be involved in the "head-count reduction," but I would guess that many of the over 2,000 employees marked for layoffs possess similar inklings. We'll find out in a couple week who will stay and who will go. So, who knows? Boston Scientific is giving very generous severance packages - I would end up getting paid my full salary for several months. Maybe with all that time on my hands, I would diligently complete my homework well in advance of due dates. I have two papers due Wednesday that I've barely touched. But then again, maybe all that time off would drive me insane, maybe drive me to write a little poetry...

A Little Bit of News

The little bit of news is that Chris accepted a new job with Citizen's Bank. He gave his two weeks' notice at Eastern Bank last Friday and plans to take a week off after that to catch up on school. Chris continues to stay extremely busy with homework, but he is beginning to find a routine. We had a relaxing past weekend, enjoying the beautiful weather.

Greta also had a relaxing weekend.

NYC

Chris and I were fortunate enough to have his sister Allison and her husband Rob visit us this past weekend. We rushed through an abbreviated tour of Boston on Friday, boiled lobster that night and drove to New York City first thing on Saturday morning. We didn't have a lot of time to sightsee in New York, but we at least saw most of the major tourist spots. Allison and I both picked up designer (wink, wink) purses on Canal Street by Chinatown. Saturday night we walked through Times Square, ate at a tapas restaurant in Greenwich Village and stopped a couple places in the Upper East Side. One restaurant, called Jekyll and Hyde was decorated like a haunted mansion. The bathrooms were hidden in a hallways of bookcases, requiring customers to test out the books for the secreted rooms, and the restaurant/pub had lots of other eccentricities. Visits from family and friends are always too short, but we had an awesome time with Rob and Allison.
