This past weekend, I flew to Minnesota for my ten year high school reunion. I spent all day Friday with my parents, and very early Saturday morning, I met two college friends for coffee. Amanda, Lizzie and I all lived on the same hall our freshman year of college, and Lizzie is getting married the first weekend in June. It was a tough call whether to fly to Minnesota for Lizzie's wedding or for this reunion.
Audra drove to my parents' house just before lunch on Saturday and brought along her two girls, Rae and Ruby. I couldn't believe how fearless Ruby, the younger girl, was around the dogs. And the last time I saw Rae, I don't think she was talking.
Saturday evening, I met up with several of my high school classmates. I went to a very small, private school that graduated only 25 my senior year. About half of the class came to the reunion (some with spouses). It was fun to catch up with everyone and hear about work, kids, school, etc.
After church on Sunday, my parents and I ate downtown Minneapolis at Brit's Pub and then saw the new Robin Hood movie. Before the movie started, we stopped at Jamie's house for about an hour - Varsana and Malia are apparently very interested in WWE wrestling. They watch videos on YouTube and have screen savers of female wrestlers. Is this a new fad with kids these days?
I'm happy I went back. Last Christmas, we didn't have enough time to see friends, so I had a year-and-half of face-to-face catching up to do. The time spent with my family was relaxing, too, and my mom made all the Minnesota favorites: chicken wild rice soup, walleye and rhubarb crisp.

Pieces of Spring

Spring has arrived in Massachusetts. I can tell by all the weeds growing through the wood chips in our backyard. Chris and I have been running outside with Greta most weekends, and concern for her stamina in the heat (and maybe combined with our being a little bored one night) resulted in her getting a spontaneous haircut. Here are before and after shots (and one immediately after):I had a quick trip to New Orleans the first few days in May for a work convention. I stayed downtown off Canal Street. I saw no oil and brought back no beads.
This past Saturday, Chris and I drove to Narrangasett, Rhode Island, to check out the beaches. It was a cool, rainy day, but Chris especially wanted to scout out the water because it's one of the few places nearby that could be conducive to surfing. I think we'll go back sometime this summer - it's only about an hour and a half away.
In other news, Chris handed in his two weeks notice at Rockland Trust. He has been selected for an internship this summer at the Middlesex District Attorney's office. Strangely enough, the location where he will be interning is in Marlborough, the city where I work. Hopefully, we can carpool some days this summer. Other than that, I already finished spring semester (just one class), and Chris has one more paper to complete.
