California

Chris and I flew to California for a week with the goal of catching up with Sean and Bonny in Pebble Beach. We started out the trip in L.A., flying in late Wednesday and then spending all day Thursday exploring the area. Chris lived just north of L.A. for several years when he was a boy so he was already familiar with many of the spots we visited: Hollywood Boulevard, Rodeo Drive, Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach.

As we drove the next leg of the trip to Santa Barbara, we detoured to Moorpark where Chris lived for several years. He toured me through his old neighborhood and house and past his elementary school. It was fun to see a part of his life that was unknown to me previously.
Santa Barbara was beautiful. Compared to the grunginess of Venice Beach, Santa Barbara felt breezy and chic. Chris and I walked along the water, the pier and along State Street before Sean, Bonny and Cora joined us late that evening.

The next day, we drove to Pismo Beach and waited in line at the Splash Cafe for a great bowl of clam chowder. Out hotel balconey opened onto a scenic vista across the pool and into the ocean.
After eating breakfast in San Luis Obispo, we broke apart from Sean and Bonny to drive leisurely along Hwy 1. The rocky coast was spectactular with picture-worthy views almost every mile. We took a ton of pictures, but here are a few.

We arrived in Pebble Beach and Sean and Bonny's house late afternoon. They live along in a quiet community with easy access to the ocean and running trails. We took a chilly stroll along Bird Rock Beach as the sun set.
Over the next few days, we visited the Monterey Aquarium and fell in love with the ethereal jellyfish exhibit. Chris and I visited Santa Cruz and a winery one day while Sean worked. We also spent a lot of time playing with Cora, who is growing so quickly. She smiles and laughs easily and can't seem to eat enough blueberries.

Winter in Minnesota

Not much new with us. Chris and I have been working, spending time with friends and family and enjoying the mild winter. A couple highlights included seeing Julius Caesar at the Guthrie with Allison, Rob and Jamie and trying out new neighborhood restaurants (best pizza crust in the Cities at Pizza Lola). I've had a relatively travel-free last few months for work, but I expect that to pick up again in the spring. I don't think I'll be going anywhere new, but it's still nice to get out of the office once in a while.
