This past weekend, I drove with my parents to Morris where my dad received an alumni award from the University of Minnesota Morris. We stayed at my parents' cabin in Hoffman and then visited my grandfather the next morning at the care center where he recently relocated. My grandfather who turned 96 in July thought Fiona was pretty wiggly.

Here are a few pictures with my grandfather and his wonderful wife, Carol.

Four Generations

I've been meaning to get some additional pictures posted from our visit to Indiana in August. Here are some with Fiona's grandparents on Chris' side.

Four Generations
Grandma Bobbi (I need to get a four generation picture with her, too)
Lastly, here are a few of Fiona, just because she's cute.

Two Months

Fiona is two months old tomorrow! She had her two month check-up a week early and weighed 11 lbs and measured 22 inches. She received her first round of immunizations, which wasn't as terrible as I expected. She screamed but settled down quickly. Fiona can now self-soothe during the day: I can generally set her down without her dissolving into tears. We're still working on sleeping at night. She's a night owl and likes to be awake from 10pm - 1am most nights. I'm going to try monitoring her sleep schedule during the day more carefully and start a bath routine to see it it helps. Otherwise, she's a sweet baby. She's starting to smile and can wear all 0-3 month and some 3 months clothes. Except for socks. Fiona has big feet and long toes and is wearing 6-9 month socks. Anything smaller falls off her feet.
We had a passport photo taken of Fiona this week and will submit her application at the DMV next week. We'd like to take her on trips with us here and there. I have a couple weeks of maternity leave remaining and am taking advantage of the cool weather to walk around the lakes with Fiona and Greta most days. Chris also runs with Greta. For an eight-year-old dog, she has incredible stamina and heart, and I'm looking forward to being able to run with her again.

Here are a couple pictures taken by Audra of my two favorite girls:

Visitors from California

We were very excited to see Sean, Bonny and Cora who arrived from California last week. They spent just over a week in Minnesota, staying the majority of the time with my parents and a couple nights with Chris and me. I am always sad to see them  back off for the airport, but we had a fun time together. They met Fiona and rocked her to sleep in their arms. After a skeptical first introduction, Cora warmed up to Fiona as the trip progressed and finally kissed her cheek on the last day of the visit. We had lots of family time with my parents and Jamie and the girls, including a Labor Day picnic at Lake Harriet.

All four cousins
Bonny and I treated ourselves to a manicure on Labor Day while Chris and Sean watched the girls.

 Fun at Lake Harriet

Finally, some love!

Fiona Update & Pictures

Fiona is 7 weeks old tomorrow. Chris and I love our little baby, although she's not so little anymore. Her newborn outfits are too snug now, and I switched her out of the newborn size diapers a couple weeks ago.

She has her good and bad nights for sleeping, but overall, we are hitting a rhythm. She loves to be held upright and walked but will also sleep on Chris' chest in the evening. I've found that if I transfer her to the swing right after she eats, she will take a long nap to the sounds of classical music. Chris and I are amused by all of the little sounds she makes: an array of squeaks, grunts and growls. Greta is attracted by her noises, and I have to shoo her away often before she licks Fiona's face. I've tried several pacifiers, and Fiona refuses all of them except one, which she will take on a rare occasion. She is indiscriminate about being held when she's not hungry and will fall asleep in anyone's arms.

Fiona has retained her full head of dark hair, and her eyes are dark blue. I suspect her eyes may change to green or hazel as she gets older to match Chris'. Everyone comments how much she looks like her daddy, and I agree.

My friend, Audra, gifted me with a professional newborn photography session, and the pictures turned out beautifully. She spent a lot of time working with Fiona, who would not fall asleep, and Chris and I are very blessed to have such a talented friend. Here are some pictures of our sweet baby at about 5 weeks:

Chris' sister, Allison, made the name collage in the third picture (it's on display in the nursery), and my mother-in-law, Rhonda, made the flowered pillow Fiona is sleeping on in one of the last pictures. I need to post updated pictures of the nursery now that is is mostly put together.
