Professional Pictures

I booked Julie from simply bliss photography for Eloise's newborn photo shoot. Julie formerly worked at Step-by-Step Montessori where Fiona attends school and actually took care of Fiona in the infant room for several months before leaving to start her own photography business. I highly recommend her if you're looking for a photographer. Julie took quite a few pictures of Eloise but also got some great family pictures, too. Chris was able to take part in the photo shoot for about an hour, which was enough time to cover pictures at Lake Harriet and ensure that Fiona didn't jump into the lake. After Chris left, we took additional pictures at the Peace (Rock) Garden nearby. There was far too much water and too many small rocks (which Fiona likes to put in her mouth) around us to keep Fiona's white dress clean. I know for a fact that Julie photoshopped out the dirt on Fiona's dress and around her mouth.

I love all of the pictures, but here are some of my favorites:

Fiona Turns Two

We celebrated Fiona's birthday today with immediate family. Before the party, we whipped up pancakes for breakfast and let Fiona "open" presents from Chris and me (I didn't actually wrap anything). We got her a KidKraft kitchen with accessories, magnetic building tiles and a couple books. Chris spent a late night Thursday putting the kitchen together. We've been telling Fiona about her party all week, and she's been reciting all of her family members who would be attending (including Papa Mike and Grandma Rhonda, who couldn't make it from Indiana).

It was a little bit of a rough morning for me because Eloise was very fussy and wanted to be held non-stop. Chris ended up doing most of the cleaning and food preparation (love that guy). Once all of the cousins arrived (Varsana, Malia, Lilly, Evan, Isaac, Cora and Jack), we moved to the backyard for food and cake. Varsana's birthday was July 16 and Sean's was July 18 so we celebrated those birthdays, as well. The kids had the most fun playing with punch balloons, and a few had to be rescued from the neighbor's yard.

Fiona had lots of help unwrapping presents. She's definitely excited for the toys, but she still doesn't totally understand unwrapping presents. It was a good thing there were several hands to rip the paper.

I feel a little nostalgic that Fiona is already two. Chris calls her "intense," and she is definitely a headstrong, determined girl. But she is also exuberant, passionate and loving. We are grateful for two years with this girl. There is nothing like the feel of her little arms around my neck or hearing her voice calling out, "Mama."

Eloise - 1 Month

Technically, Eloise isn't one month for two more days, but she had her one month check-up at the doctor's office today. No shots until two months (thank goodness). She is 9 lbs, 14 oz and 21 inches long. Her weight is 77th percentile, not sure about the height. Everything looks great with her. Eloise is sleeping and eating well (still up every three hours or so at night) and likes to have her most awake period during the evening hours. When Fiona is not around making noise and stealing Eloise's blankets, Eloise will sleep contentedly in her rocker or car seat if we are arriving home from an errand. Chris gave Eloise her first bottle two nights ago, and she took it easily. Hopefully, this will continue through the coming weeks to prepare her for going to daycare in September.

Here's a quick picture of what Chris and Fiona have been doing, other than going to splash pads. Chris recently put a seat on his bike for Fiona, and the two of them cycle around the lakes, sometimes stopping at Lake Harriet for a swim.
