Summer Recap

This summer felt very full, in the best way. We crammed our evenings and weekends with trips to splash pads and beaches and went for many bike rides and walks. The girls loved playing in the backyard, so we spent more time there than in previous summers. Via NextDoor, I picked up some incredible free or heavily discounted items for the kids: a wishbone balance bike, radio flyer tricycle and some other toys.

I've put up posts this summer with pictures of cousins, Fourth of July, birthdays, our anniversary trip to Portland and August trip to Indiana. Here are a bunch more miscellaneous picture.

A rare sunset just before the trees leafed out

We had serious conversations

and some tired times

We took some peaceful boat rides...

...and some stressful rides

and bike rides

Eloise gave Greta a lot of love...

...and learned how to ride a horse

Water, water, everywhere

 and popsicles

I can't forget the requisite food and music pictures:

and other restaurants (lots of crayons and stickers)

including ice cream at Lake Harriet

The girls ran around at my parents' house in Hugo:

Chris finally cut his hair. Maybe he got sick of me trying to style it with the girls' hairbands.

There was a little bit of sickness, cured by lots of Frozen.

Fiona still loves to play with polished rocks and my old miniature tea set.

Overall, we just spent a lot of time with each other.

 Goodbye, summer.

The Girls Lately (Videos)

Eloise is a climber (usually she gets all the way in just fine).

The girls are starting to interact more.

Long Weekend in Indiana

We had a wonderful four days in Indiana with Chris' family. We flew to Chicago late Wednesday, August 19, and Chris' father was kind enough to make the 2 hours drive to pick us up at Midway. Eloise fortunately passed out on the flight and during the two hour car ride. Fiona was also very well-behaved, watching a show on the plane and chatting to us for a while in the car before also falling asleep. Allison and her kids had driven to Indiana, arriving the day before us.
Friday, we picked up Grandma Bobbi and drove to a nearby mall so the kids could try bungee trampoline jumping. Fiona and Lilly went first, and both LOVED it. It took Fiona a bit to get the hang of it, but Lilly was a pro and even did a flip.

We then spent a sunny afternoon with Bobbi and Chris' grandfather and his wife, Rose. Fiona and Lilly decided to do some sunbathing in the backyard.

Saturday, Rhonda watched Eloise for several hours while we drove back and forth to Indianapolis to the Children's Museum. Some of the exhibits were a little over Fiona's head, but she enjoyed tearing around with her cousins. She especially liked looking at the mummy exhibit, the carousel and the China exhibit (you enter "China" through an airplane, and then can experience interactive dress, food, calligraphy, etc.).

We spent several hours Saturday at Chris' aunt and uncle's house for a pool party. All the kids loved the water, including Eloise, and it was fun to catch up with the extended family.

We took an early flight from Midway Sunday morning and arrived at our house by 10:00am.
